PENANG, 30 August 2026 — Osel Group of Clinics reinforced its commitment to community health and sporting safety by providing paramedic support and on-site medical standby services for the Penang FTZ Factory Pickleball Championships 2026, held on 29th-30th August 2026.
Throughout the tournament, the Osel medical team was on standby to provide first aid, emergency medical assessment and immediate medical assistance to players, officials and spectators. Appropriate medical equipment and supplies were also deployed to support rapid response should medical attention be required.
Dr. Cheang Wai Hong, Primary Care Medical Officer with special interests in Dermatology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Obesity, from Osel Clinic Straits Quay, highlighted the importance of medical preparedness at community sporting events:
“As participation in recreational and competitive sports grows, medical preparedness becomes increasingly important. Even seemingly minor symptoms such as dizziness, dehydration, muscle injuries or falls can require prompt assessment. Having a medical team on-site allows us to assess participants early, provide immediate care and determine quickly if further treatment is required.”
Dr. Cheang added that community sporting events also provide an opportunity to promote greater awareness of preventive health, physical activity and responsible participation in sport. Dr. Kyle Tan Khang Lyn, Resident Medical Officer with special interests in specialised microsurgery, trichology and scalp bio-regeneration, from Osel Clinic Macalister HQ emphasised the importance of rapid response to sporting injuries:
“In sport, the first few minutes following an injury can make a meaningful difference. Immediate assessment allows us to identify whether an injury can be safely managed on-site or requires escalation to a hospital or specialist facility. Our objective is always to provide timely, appropriate care while ensuring the safety of the participant.”
Dr. Tan added:
“Healthcare should not only be available when someone walks into a clinic. By bringing medical support directly to sporting and community events, we are putting Osel’s philosophy of Care Beyond Boundaries into practice.”
With pickleball continuing to grow in popularity among people of different ages and fitness levels, access to trained medical personnel at organised sporting events provides an important additional layer of safety for participants.
The initiative reflects Osel Group of Clinics’ belief that healthcare should extend beyond the walls of the clinic and into the communities it serves. Osel Group of Clinics Medical Director & Chief Clinical & Innovative Scientist, Adj. Professor Datuk Seri Dr. Kris KS See commended:
“Sport brings people together, but every sporting event must also place the safety and well-being of participants at its heart, especially when the country is currently battling through the haze, our role is not merely to respond when something happens, but to be prepared before it happens. Our team must also be prepared for respiratory symptoms, breathing difficulties, dehydration, heat-related illness and other acute medical events. This is why having trained medical personnel and appropriate equipment on-site is so important”
Osel Group of Clinics was pleased to work alongside the organisers in supporting a safe, enjoyable and successful championship, continuing its broader commitment to preventive healthcare, community engagement and accessible medical support, based on our 2026 corporate theme: Care Beyond Boundaries — Expanding Impact, Touching Lives.
