Climate Emergency, Pray For Australia
Climate change is the greatest threat to humanity, perhaps ever. Global temperatures are rising at an unprecedented rate, causing drought and forest fires and impacting human health.
As Australia’s bushfire crisis continues, firefighters and communities have been injured, lost their homes and, tragically, lost their lives.
Estimated casualties:
24 people dead
500 million animals dead
More than 8,000 Koalas either injured or dead
More than 10,000 Kangaroos either injured or dead
Over 5.5 million hectares burned
More than 1400 homes destroyed
The bushfires are believed to have spewed as much as two-thirds of the nation's annual carbon dioxide emissions in just the past three months, with experts warning forests may take more than 100 years to absorb what's been released so far this season. Many people are wondering how best to help and donate to the fire-fighting and recovery effort.
Here are three ways that some of the organisations on the front-line recommend. 1. Donate to the @redcrossau fire appeal: https://www.redcross.org.au/ 2. Country Fire Authority (CFA) @cfavic: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/supporting-cfa 3. New South Wales RFS @nswrfs: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
Every little bit helps.
